Coming back to in-person learning has allowed sports to be back as well. However, the girls soccer team has had a hard time adjusting due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

According to Coach Sara MacLennan, they lost many players and others have lost practice time due to exposure to COVID-19.

Freshman Jocelyn Carrillo, knows the team has had a rough season.

But she “believes the team is putting in a lot of effort and we are there to have fun,” said Carrillo.

She added that even though they haven’t won a game, “we have heart and passion.”

“The record is not the record we had hoped for but the team has been coming together and working hard all season,” said MacLennan.

Alyssa Padilla, one of the captains for the team, regards her role as tough this year with difficulties that have come with it.

Padilla said, “My role as captain is fun. I try my best to keep everyone’s spirits up.”

“Some difficulties us captains face is trying to get everyone to talk to each other on the field,” she added.

Carrillo as a freshman on the varsity team is enjoying her experience as a first year player.

“It’s been a roller coaster of emotions and events. It is challenging because I’m not as experienced as the other girls,” said Carrillo.

Regardless of all the ups and downs the team has faced, they continue to build friendships and appreciate one another for their hard work and efforts.

“I just appreciate all the players we have available and I love how everyone on the team are friends,” concluded Padilla.

As of Jan. 31, their league record is 4-6-0.
