District Wide COVID-19 Testing Starts at Godinez
Students are tested for COVID-19 on Thursday, October 7, 2021.
September 28, 2021
In an effort to keep students safe, the Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) implemented a district wide COVID-19 testing clinic at all school sites.
According to Superintendent of schools, Jerry Almendarez, over 16,000 individuals across the district have been tested.
At Godinez, the first day of testing was on Thursday, Sept. 23. Principal Jesse Church, said that approximately 1,800 students and staff were tested.
Here are some thoughts from Grizzlies about testing for COVID-19.

I was so excited when I heard that our school in SAUSD were going to be offering COVID test’s for students all around in Santa Ana. One of the main reasons I was excited was because not only would students feel safe but also it would be a safe environment for us. The best thing that’s happening with these COVID test’s is that if students were to test positive, the school would place them in quarintine and not expose other students nearby. A PLETHORA of people already have been tested and it’s the safest choice ever, according to the article ” 1,800 students and staff were tested.” In conclusion this school wide testing has made me feel very safe and comfterable in school.

I think starting covid testing was a good idea because it will allow the students to feel safe coming to school daily. I like that the covid test is a cheek swab. I think myself and others would LOATHE if we had to take the nasal swab. “The process was fast and painless” allowing our students to get the tests done quickly.

Some people may LOATHE the idea of getting tested every single week. They also might not like how it takes time off from learning. I feel safer at school when there is testing on campus because it gives us extra protection. COVID-19 can very much affect us because it slows us back on schoolwork. Instead of getting sick, we can prevent that by getting tested weekly. As we can see in the article many students agree with me for example senior Allison E said “that she likes the idea of weekly testing because it keeps all the students safe”

I feel safer knowing that the school is doing covid tests every week. I feel this is important because of how contagious and dangerous covid is. It is also good how the results come back really fast. People all over the district are getting tested weekly “16,000 individuals across the district have been tested.” The whole process of the covid test just takes a TINGE of time.

I feel like the new weekly Covid-19 testing has made lots of people including me to feel safe coming to school. According to the article “approximately 1,800 students and staff were tested”. This makes people feel comfortable coming to school. The “COVID-19 testing clinic” are well organized and clean.

The weekly COVID-19 testing that has begun at school has definitely made me feel more comfortable being on campus everyday now. According to our principal “approximately 1,800 students and staff were tested” all during the first day of testing, which makes me feel a lot safer going to school. I personally like the form of testing we are getting done because I feel getting a sample of our saliva provides more accuracy than the nasal test. I’m very glad testing has begun at school because this will keep us, here at godinez, from reaching appoint where there is a voracious outbreak like we’ve experienced before.

The district is taking these safety measures in order to keep us safe. It is good to know that “1,800 students and staff were tested”. Overall, the “COVID-19 testing clinics” are very well organized and experienced. The people that are doing the test are kind, efficient, and quick to not waste a lot of our school time so we can get back to our class. I agree that covid testing is ¨painless process¨because the type of test is on the cheek so it’s because I would LOATHE to have the nose swab test because my nose is sensitive.

I feel that with the covid-19 testing it will make students feel safer being at school. The test isn’t “uncomfortable” and it is very quick. I feel safe knowing that at school “approximately 1,800 students and staff were tested” and I can be around people comfortably. The students at school probably feel the same about being safe around other students that are being tested and it will ENHANCE their learning experience in school.

Having weekly Covid testing makes me feel a lot more safer at school. Knowing how VIGILANT the school, teachers, and students are about Covid also makes me feel more comfortable. They are taking the precautions needed, as well as most of them being tested weekly. I know a lot of people think “going back to school in person was a bad idea” or “it will make kids more sick.” Thankfully there has not been a lot of people testing positive. Even if they do test positive, the school takes good precautions.

I’m very happy that these Covid tests are AVID to make sure everyone’s safe. I was really nervous for this to be happening at our school because i wasn’t used to it and i didn’t how it was gonna be but after doing it a few times i feel better about it. I’m glad that its a cheek swab because i was nervous about the nose one. I feel like kids at campus feel way better coming to school knowing that they’ll be more safe and secure from the virus. When i first did the test everything was pretty simple and fast.

I think the weekly testing is great. I believe this will greatly increase the safety of the school. There is no way for students to FABRICATE test results. I’m always surprised when I see the “testing clinic” because it looks very professional and it happens within a day. I’m also glad that we are doing the “cheek swab” instead of the painful nose swabs.

Our last school year brought us stress and unhappiness, this was because we were taking online classes and the spread of Covid had just begun. This school year is a lot different were are in our school campus while also wearing mask to keep us and other in the school safe. I agree that Covid testing is a “easy and painless process” that give us all a TINGE of safety and security in our campus. When the nurses are taking our Covid test they also ask us if we are having any Covid symptom and from there they are able to PROGNOSTICATE what out Covid results might be. On Thursday when the staffs go class to class the take THRONG of students to the testing site making sure we can all get Covid tested. Not risking our health and feel safe in our campus is all we want.

Last year we had one of the most stressful school year since we were taking online classes and the spread of Covid had just begun. Having the school Covid tested gives us a TINGE of security that we are not taking chances and risking our health at school. I agree with what the Godinez students have to say. It is and “easy and painless” process it is also a very quick process that allows the student to not miss much class time. The nurses that are Covid testing also ask us if we are having any Covid symptoms and from there they are able to PROGNOSTICATE what out Covid results might be. When the staff go from class to class they usually take a THRONG of students at a time to make sure we are all getting Covid tested. The Covid testing in our school allows us to feel safe in it.

I was glad to hear that the district let us get Covid tested. With Covid-19 going around I felt safe when we started getting tested. I also felt safe with getting test because if we were not going to get tested there with have been another outburst. I liked that are school is taking the precaution with Covid with having mask on. I also liked that the teacher have seating charts so if someone near them was exposed they would be sent home to control the expositions.

With Covid testing at school it makes testing a bit of a relief now. Now I can talk to people without thinking they have the virus. I also feel ¨safer at school¨ when we are Covid tested since we don´t know who can have the virus and it keeps everyone in check. I agree with Diego that it is not ¨uncomfortable¨ when we get Covid tested on campus since it only takes 3 minutes and it is not painful. Even if the pandemic feels INTERMINABLE we must find a way to protect ourselves and make our community safer and Covid testing every week is a great way to keep all of us safe on campus.

I agree with the thoughts given by the Grizzles when they say the COVID-19 clinic was an “easy process” and “painless”. Going to school knowing the SAUSD district is making an effort to keep students safe made me comfortable attending in person school. Waiting for the PROGNOSIS of my COVID test was nerve wracking. Now we get tested weekly with mouth swab. School now feels safer knowing superintendents are taking action to stop COVID-19 exposure.

Wendy could have given us more information about what the swab test included. I still think she is an OK reporter though
