The Godinez Fundamental High School boys’ soccer team doesn’t plan on stopping till they’ve won a title. As they head into Regional 1st Round Playoffs, here is a short recap of their journey:
On May 15, Godinez goes against Paramount High School. They won in the 1st round of the playoffs with a score of 6-1. Athletic Director Lisa Treen updated staff and students on the win in sometimes, daily emails.
“Thank you to everyone who showed up for today’s 1st round win over Paramount!” said Treen.
May 16, Godinez went against JSerra High School. It was a rematch front the previous year where they suffered a grueling loss.
They won against them with a score of 3-1. Goalie Gabriel Contreras had an incredible game with over 10 saves. Treen gushed over Contreras’ game.
“Contreras made some incredible saves and rejected a free kick (given on a handball in the box) to motivate his fellow teammates,” said Treen.
Contreras and teammate, Ramses Esquivel, who scored 2 out of the 3 winning goals, were both written up on OC Varsity’s website.
With this win they moved onto the Quarter Finals against Valley High School.

Godinez won against Santa Ana Valley with a score of 2-0.
“It was a very well played and exciting game for the SAUSD history books.” said by Treen. Contreras blocked every attempted goal by Valley’s team.
On Saturday, May 22, they were against Mira Costa High School for the semi-finals of the CIF Division 1 playoffs. Unfortunately, they lost with a score of 6-0.
Treen said “They may have lost the game against Mira Costa, but they will always remember the experience and those returning now know what they face to get to the D1 championship round.”
The boys soccer team now goes to CIF CA Regionals Round I and II. They have their first game on June 1st against Birmingham Charter High School in Van Nuys at 5 p.m.
All Tickets for Regional games are sold through GoFan Online Ticketing and must be purchased in advance.

My knowledge of soccer is RUDIMENTARY but with such examples as goalie named Contreras being able to put in so much effort to help out his team is incredible. “They won against them with a score of 3-1, Goalie Gabriel Contreras had an incredible game with over 10 saves.” This also encourages fellow soccer players to try their hardest just like Contreras. “Contreras made some incredible saves and rejected a free-kick to motivate his fellow teammates ” with such hard-working players like this the soccer team is sure to make it to the finals next time and without a doubt wipe the floor. The experience of past games and players helps their muscle memory to hopefully overpower the field the next time they are faced against the other school’s team.

While reading through this article I found it interesting in getting to know the Godinez boys soccer team. I can see how ADROIT and encouraging they are in playing soccer. Its amazing how Gabriel Conteras made over 10 saves and was written up on OC Varsity’s website. I can also see their determination and their hard work in getting all the way to D1 championship round. Overall Godinez is lucky to have a great soccer team.

This article is really entertaining because during the pandemic people probably thought that there was no sports being playing because of COVID. The boys soccer team did pretty good and tried there best.

This article was very interesting to me because I play soccer too. Since the pandemic hit the world, a lot of player didn’t soccer or other sports. I’am a AVID fan of soccer and this article delighted me. The soccer player played very well when they won against Paramount High school 6-1. The goalkeeper Gabriel Contreras had a amazing game against JSerra High School were he had 10 saves.

Since I play soccer this article is very interesting to me. During the pandemic many student athletes weren’t able to play the sport they love to help them relive stress. I BRISTLE as i read through this article because its amazing how far these boy got and how they never gave up. The hard work and dedication they put in was worth it and now they’re working harder then ever to get even farther. Going to Godinez its interesting that I go to school with many of these players because they’ve experienced the D1 level that I soon hope to get to as well
