The Grizzly newsroom cares about you during your two weeks off, so here are some things to do during the holiday break:

  1. Light Tours

Many neighborhoods are decorated with Christmas lights and it makes them look bright at night. Since there are multiple houses that are decorated with lights, it would be a wonderful idea to walk around neighborhoods looking at the lights. Senior, Elisa Muñoz, says, “I enjoy walking around neighborhoods that have Christmas lights with my family because I feel like the colors brighten up our day.” Some other cities that have magnificent lights are Fountain Valley, Costa Mesa, and Newport Beach.

  1. Karaoke

This is definitely an activity that could be done with both friends and family. Singing to Christmas songs can be a way to express the joy that everyone has. Not only that, but it’s also a way of showing off those vocals you have or don’t have. Celebrating with Karaoke is a unique way of showing your gratitude and having fun. If you decide to take it up another level, you can even sing while dancing. It would be an unexpected turn of events.

  1. Disney On Ice

If you have any young ones, Disney on Ice would be a nice option as well! Although it is a bit of a splurge, it’s guaranteed to make the young ones happy. It’ll definitely be a great experience for the whole family. Sophomore, Angela Orosco, said, “it was a cute activity to do with her boyfriend and his family.”

  1. L.A Zoo/ Santa Ana Zoo

The L.A. Zoo is one of the most festive places you can visit around Christmas time. They decorate the park head to toe in whimsical lighting guaranteed to get you the perfect Instagram post or Snapchat. L.A is only a short commute away from OC. It’s very affordable as well. Another good option can be the Santa Ana Zoo, they hold fun Christmas activities there as well!

  1. D.I.Y Ornaments

Making your own ornaments helps add a special touch to your Christmas tree. You could print out family pictures or pictures with your friends and place them in a clear ornament. Once you do that you could add some glitter, fake snow, paint the ornament, anything you would like just get creative. You could also make an ornament out of popsicle sticks by making a frame and placing any image you like in the middle. This way when people come over they do not just see a dull or ordinary Christmas tree, but a tree full of life and sentimental value.

  1. Gingerbread House

“I love making gingerbread houses because I get to be as creative as I want. Plus they taste delicious.”, said  Junior, Samantha Trejo. Making a gingerbread house is always fun, but let’s be honest. We all love a friendly competition, so why not have a gingerbread house making competition with your friends and family. You could invite your friends and family to your house and put on some Christmas music to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.

  1. Baking

Baking by yourself can be fun at first, but after a while it gets boring. Instead, why don’t you bake with your family or friends. Around the holiday time, baking cakes, cookies, and pastries can make many people get into a Christmassy mood. Baking with family or friends can be more fun because you can assign everyone a task. For example, one person could be in charge of dry ingredients, one person can be in charge of wet ingredients, and another can be in charge of preparing the utensils. Not only will this be a good bonding experience but it will also be a great time saver.

  1. Family Game Night

Christmas time is great because many people get to spend it with their loved ones. However, there are times where we don’t know what to do as a family, one cool and competitive idea is a family game night. Freshman, Jenessa Hernandez, says, “My family and I love to play Jenga and ping pong, it’s a fun competitive game, that everyone participates in.” Competitive games are very fun especially amongst family and friends. Other games suggestions are, monopoly and loteria.
