Arriving at 6:30 am, Senior Bryan Barranon spends an average of 12 hours at school everyday.

“Music is life,” Barranon exclaims. Barranon proves his love for music everyday. He has been in band for four years, spending two of those years in marching and jazz band.

Barranon first picked up the clarinet freshman year after gaining inspiration from his favorite cartoon character on Spongebob. The clarinet isn’t the only instrument he plays; when he gets home after a long day of practice, Barranon picks up his guitar and practices for an hour or more on his own.

Barranon knows those long hours at school and practice will pay off. He wants to go to either go to Cal State Fullerton or Vanguard University. He hopes to one day be a music teacher for high school students in the area, just like his music teacher, Mark Santos.

“I love my parents and family more than anything, and music,” Barranon couldn’t be anymore clear as to what his priorities are in life.

One inspiration he is very grateful for would be his four-year-old sister. She loves whenever he picks up his clarinet to practice. He hopes to inspire her to play an instrument just like her older brother. He also has a 20 year-old sister who is supportive as well, and comes to see him perform whenever she can.

His mom works full-time, but always finds time for her kids. Barranon’s dad works two jobs, mostly because they could use the extra money to buy things like musical equipment for Barranon.

“I’m very proud of my son, he’s doing something he really loves.” Barranon’s dad is happy that his son is doing very well in both his classes and in his music.

Bryan Barranon finds time for school, his family, and his passion for music. Staying until 7-8 p.m. most days to work on homework after practice, he still manages to get home and practice a second instrument.
