The Unappreciated Art of Santa Ana
November 12, 2017
As you venture down the crowded sidewalks of Santa Ana, hidden figures lie around every corner with a story to tell. The culture of our city expresses itself through our music, our people, and especially our art. To the average person, our culture slips by their eye and remains unnoticed, but if you look closer, Santa Ana is an embodiment of eye-opening art.

I agree with this article because it is beautiful how there is a lot of art in the streets and each piece of art has its own meaning behind the art. Many would say that people are ruining the walls because they assume it is graffiti but just because it is on the wall doesn’t mean it is graffiti. The unique part about art is that there are story’s or meanings about ones art. Some people might not know that people want to express themselves through art and that is probably why some do it ,but others get irate because they don’t believe its art.

Many people believe that the graffiti that is on 4th street walls was made just to be there. What most don’t realize is the art they see was made by many eminent artists who have a story to tell and expresses it through their art. The paintings seen are only a tinge of what the artists want to tell the general public. These avid artists are always wanting to tell their stories on 4th street walls.

When most people see art in a Santa Ana, they think, “These people are ruining the community, they’re creating destruction to our society, influencing younger audiences to follow their negative path.” When in reality, this isn’t true. Just because someone has a bottle of spray paint, it doesn’t make them a tagger (someone who spray paints everywhere for negative reasons). It’s what you do with that bottle of paint that defines who you are deep down inside. Whether you do good or bad with it. Many artists have created intrepid and beautiful paintings that speak with purpose. The works of art all have meanings behind them that only so many will understand. If you look closely in the paintings there are so many nuances that would be missed. Adroit artists have fabricated pieces of art that will forever remain on the foundations of 4th street.

I completely agree with this article. Santa Ana is full of art but it goes unappreciated or is seen as graffiti. Art always has a deeper meaning, they tell stories we cant speak. I have always noticed the unique graffiti and murals on the walls of 4th street, it is very sad how most people never realize they are there. The murals tell the past and present stories of Santa Ana. I like how slide 14 shows a mural of Santa Ana before it had its technological changes, many people overlook how much our city has grown. The city´s Mexican heritage can be seen in the walls of 4th Street. This article is a real eye-opener for people who never noticed the art in our city.

These pieces of art are incredible and if it weren’t for this article, I would have probably never noticed most of them. I believe that a lot more spaces should be provided for these talented artists to publicly create and display their work, since it really makes our city look beautiful and brings color to it.
