Today’s topic of discussion will be TV shows. The shows we chose are “American Horror Story, Rick and Morty”, and “Game of Thrones.” We picked “American Horror Story” because it is really popular with the female audience and “Rick and Morty” for being popular with the male audience. The third show, “Game of Thrones,” is popular with both audiences.

Joanna:

One show I’m completely obsessed with is “American Horror Story.” I love how every season it’s a whole different storyline than the previous one. The thrill, drama, love interests, and gore just seems to catch my attention. Almost every girl I know watches this show despite how creepy it may seem. “American Horror Story” is by far the best show anyone can watch.

Raul:

Well Joanna, a far better show that guys are totally obsessed with is “Rick and Morty.” This shows is a parody of “Back to the Future “ with lots of elements of science fiction, comedy, and drama. The main characters of the show are complete opposites which causes many comedic and memorable moments throughout the show. Junior Juan Alba said, ”It is a really funny show with lots of hidden meanings.”

Both:

At least there’s one show we can agree on: “Game of Thrones.” Both audiences get really into this show because it focuses on aspects each gender likes. For the girls, the show can really get into the romance side of it and also includes strong female roles. Guys really like the show because of the action, gore, and fantasy aspects. The set outlook with all the dark lords, magic, death scenes, and mythical creatures is enough of an attention grabber to attracts both audiences.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Rick’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick’s existential catchphrase “Wubba Lubba Dub Dub,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo.
