Tacos are always a good idea after a long day of school. So we decided to visit the highly rated, and new to Orange County, Mexican restaurant Tacos El Gavilan.

Located on the busy corner of Grand and 17th Street, it is a busy establishment. But after visiting the restaurant, our opinions did not reflect what the majority of reviews online said.

When we first entered, the restaurant was not too busy, so we were able to order our food as soon as we got inside and avoid a long wait in line. We ordered three tacos de carne asada and two mulitas de carne asada, which are popular items in Yelp reviews.

We spent $15.34  for three tacos  ($1.65 each) and two mulitas ($3.19 each), medium drinks ($2.05 each), so for the price we felt like we didn’t  get a bang for our buck.

Despite the cost, the wait time for our food was short. We also liked that they have a self-serve station, so we were able to add an ideal amount of toppings on our food. However, there is a lack of variety. Additionally, the limes were somewhat dry, and the beans not only lacked flavor but were dry as well.

Overall, we recommend that you go and try the food for yourself. While we may have not entirely liked it, it wasn’t the worst food we have ever had. We recommend before 8 p.m  because after 8 p.m. it starts getting packed. Also, if you’re going alone, depending on what you get, the total will be less than $10.

Unfortunately, we felt that the food didn’t really meet our expectations. We feel that for the amount you pay, the food you get isn’t really worth it. If Tacos de Gavilan adds fresher ingredients to their self-serve station and keeps prices low, we may be back to give them another shot.

Oh my gosh! I tried these too and I thought the same. The mulitas were good but they were way too small for the price. My dad asked for a Cuban torta and it had sausages inside which was kind of weird and tasted really dry. I live close by so my expectations were different since it is always full. The thing I liked was the water de horchata and the fact that you can refill without having to pay more.

This article gave a lot of information about their order and I was wondering if they would have explained more to the readers about the menu. I was concern because in the article there was two girls buying their food but in the images it shows three drinks and another plate full of mulitas .
