This year Godinez Fundamental High School (GFHS) hired two new English teachers, one is Bianka Silva, who is also a Godinez Alumna. She is currently teaching 9th and 11th graders. We asked her the following questions. These were her responses.
What made you become a teacher?
I always loved reading and was inspired by the teachers I had in high school.
Why’d you choose to teach Godinez?
I came to school here because I knew it was a great school and I was familiar with the teachers and campus.
What is it like coming back as a teacher?
It’s been different being on the other ends of things but I feel supported. My students are the most rewarding part of my job.
What was the best advice given to you about teaching?
Nothing is ever going to be perfect because teaching is a practice and a process.
How would you describe a perfect Grizzly?
No, there is no such thing as a perfect student. You learn as you go through it.
Is there anything you’ve liked seeing your first year of teaching?
A perfect Grizzly student who’s motivated, kind to others, and strives to be a better person everyday.
How do you stay organized?
I now make sure to clean my classroom everyday and use planners.
What made you decide to teach English?
I love to read and it’s important for students to know how to communicate well.
How did your point of view change after becoming a teacher?
Now that I am a teacher, I realize how much work the staff puts in for students to be successful.
What type of student were you here in Godinez?
I was very introverted, shy and followed all the rules.
We thank you for your time, Ms. Silva.
